GLORIOUS sunshine welcomed 61 competitors for the first round of this season’s Guyson Scottish Sprint Championship.
It was organised by the Scottish Sporting Car Club and held at Kames complex in East Ayrshire.
In the A1 saloon cars class, oldest certainly wasn't slowest as the Hillman Imp of Ricky Gauld took the class award from the more modern 16v power of Stuart Gilbert in his Metro.
In the A2 saloons, John Roddick posted a new record in his Saxo, beating the consistent Angus Dow (Fiesta) on his last timed run of the day.
In the largest A3 saloons category, the Impreza of Archie Bain took almost one second out of the previous class record, beating David Coutts into a second place which would also have beaten the previous class record.
In the A5 small sports car class, father and son Gavin and Peter Marshall dominated in their Caterham with Peter eventually winning by just over one second.
In the A6 sports car class, the V6 engined Dax of Les Mutch beat Steven Alexander's newly re gearboxed Westfield into second place, just rewards for overcoming electrical problems on the previous day's event.
In the classic and thoroughbred class, the Lotus Eurpoa of Olly Ross ran ahead of the group all day, beating the Turner MG of Bob MacGillivray into second place.
In the A8 marque road sports class, newcomer Duncan McAdam in a Lotus 211, beat Kevin Hamilton in his Vx220, which has replaced his aging MX5.
In the smallest modified saloon category, The Morris Mini GT of Stuart Sugden beat the 106 of Gary McDermaid into second place. Gary wasn't too upset as he had spent most of the previous night replacing the gearbox in the Peugeot.
Iain Miller from Aberdeenshire took the award for the fastest time in the B2 class.
Husband Scott Sheridan beat wife Lesley into second place in their jointly entered MK Indy at the end of a difficult day in the smallest modified sports car class.
In the larger class, Graham Clark overcame early fueling problems in the Avon Tiger to push the MGB GTV8 of Alistair Grant into a fine second place.
In the competition cars division, Mike Murchie and Alan McDonald took home the awards for their classes in their respective Fiesta and Z cars Mini.
In the larger engined sports libre class, last year’s Scottish sprint champion, Graeme Bremner, broke the previous class record and brought his newly acquired Radical Prosport home ahead of Lindy Lockhart in the fire breathing VW Corrado.
The similar OMS 2000Ms of Darren Law and Roy Munro dominated the well entered small racing cars class, coming home first and second respectively.
Fastest time of the day went to Wallace Menzies in the DJ Firestorm, the Cosworth engined machine being returned by the factory after some work on the day before the event.
