RAITH RESERVOIR (Prestwick): despite the week’s nasty weather, the water provided good fishing for the hardier anglers with 96 fish returned. Again, all methods were producing results.

Curdy Hay had four nice fish on the floating the worm. Bill Gibson same result on Power Bait. Husband and wife Davie and Linda Cronie had five on the same method. Darren Nimmo four on a Fire tiger Rapala, Andy McKissock landed a couple on the bubble and fly after a lot of offers on his Yellow Dancer.

Tam Patterson recorded five fish but didn’t quite manage to record how he caught them. Which was only surpassed by ‘J’ four fish? The young guns, Michael Hendron, seven, Lewis Kerr six, Jason Rae, two, and John Gibson two.

The fair weather anglers had a bit of a gunk with the weekend’s heat wave providing no cloud cover, a blistering sun and a flat calm. But all was not lost with 28 fish returned.

By on large, Power bait did the trick with the main men being John Anderson four, D. Kelly four and Robert Simpson from Ayr three.

Ticket outlets: Gamesport of Ayr, Newalls newsagents of Monkton, PetsAquarium of Prestwick, Torbets of Kilmarnock and Wee Jimmy’s of Bank Street, Irvine.

SPRINGWATER FISHERY (Dalrymple): fly pond fishing great. Ian Crossan from Ayr released 12 fish. Messrs Dunlop and Shaw, both from Kilmarnock, released eight fish each. Willie Dickie from Dumfries released 10, biggest 4lb.

Alan McKelvie six fish for 12lb 1oz while eight-year-old Josh Harvey from Ayr, who normally fishes the bait pond, tried fly fishing for the first time and caught two fish for 3lb 14oz. Best flies yellow dancer, blood worm, coral blob.

Bait pond fished excellent. Alan McLaughlin from Kilmarnock five fish for 10lb 10 oz, Kevan Foran five fish for 10lb 2oz, Tam Knox five for 10lb 6oz. Best bait worm maggot, green power bait.

Coarse pond starting to fish well. Plenty of silver fish and the new stocking of carp starting to feed pellet and maggot best bait.

Tommy Mitchell from Ayr won for the first time at Springwater - even if it just the Grand National sweep.

COYLE WATER FISHERY (Coylton): has been a busy week on both ponds. With the sudden improvement in the weather, fishing has been very interesting.

The fly pond has lots of insect life and the first eel was spotted on Friday. With weather conditions improving daily and water conditions steadily improving, it is becoming a pleasurable experience to fish again.

Catches: Mr Briggs six for 12.5lb, Mr Brown two for 4lb, Mr Barclay one for 2.2lb, G. Smith one for 2.2lb, Scott Mitchell one for 2.6lb, James White two for 8lb, James Wilson two for 5.6lb, Kirsten and Craig Kilpatrick two for 4lb, John Tudehope one for 1.9lb, John Steven two for 4lb, Mr Kirkpatrick three for 6.04lb, B. McGartland four for 7.9lb, R. McKeen two for 5.1lb, Stevie Lynn 11 for 26lb, A. Reid six for 14lb, T. Jarvie four for 9.3lb, Bill four for 8.4lb, R. Millar six for 11.4lb, T. Anderson four for 11.4lb, John (The boss) one at 3.5lb.

On the bait pond, good worms are starting to prove just as effective as powerbait but PB mix is still the most effective. Grubs have had some good results but guarantee your limit, powerbait is still the winner.

On the fly pond, dry flies have produced the most exciting catches but not necessarily the most. Early morning or late evening dries are deadly.

Diawl Bach and bloodworms are most effective when it's too sunny. The odd lure doing some damage but not as effective as when it was cooler. Overall, fishing has been steady and improving daily.
