Ayrshire badminton players star at Meadowbank

AYRSHIRE players were well represented in the semi finals and final stages of the East of Scotland championships at Meadowbank.

Under 19 Kaity Hall (Mauchline) was runner-up in the singles to her doubles partner Sinead Chambers (Ireland). She and Sinead then went on to win the doubles, beating fellow Mauchline pair Gail Woodburn and Shereen Spittal in the final. Gail had lost out to Kaity in the semi final of the singles. Kaity also won the mixed doubles with Steven Stewart (Dumbarton).

Under 17 Shereen Spittal won the singles and was runner-up in the mixed doubles with Peter Walker from Dundee. Anna Kay (Irvine ) won the doubles with Rachel McLeod from north. Ben Torrance (Prestwick) and Stewart Ferns (Aberdeen) reached the semi-final of the boys’ doubles, losing in a tight game to the eventual winners.

Under 15 Adam Hall and James Milton (Mauchline) were runners-up in the doubles. Adam and Lanark's Sophie Morrison also finished runners-up in the mixed doubles. James and Hannah Morrison reached the semi final of the mixed, losing to the eventual winners. James also reached the singles semi final.

Mauchline under 13 players Tammi Gibson and Holly Newall finished runners-up in the doubles. Tammi also reached the semis final of the singles while Callum MacMillan, after reaching the semi final of both the singles and doubles, had to withdraw due to illness.

He and Tammi had lost their semi of the mixed on Saturday evening to the eventual winners from Ireland. Andrew Milton and Matthew Crawshaw also reached the semi finals of the doubles.
