Hockey: Ayr men start season in style

AYR Hockey Club men's first team are off to a flier in the National League after beating Giffnock 4-3 at Cambusdoon.

The visitors raced 2-0 up in 15 minutes but Barry Reid pulled a goal back before the interval and then equalised with a well taken goal by Tom Adams.

The win was secured following a period of excellent play, resulting in two short corner goals, the first from Neil Smith with a powerful strike and the second, a sharply taken rebound by Adams after the Giffnock keeper had saved his drag flick.

The visitors managed a consolation goal in the closing minutes. Ayr's next game is away to Perthshire on Saturday.
