SUPER Holly Newall was the outstanding player of the Scotland Under 11 badminton championships.
More than 70 of Scotland’s top juniors converged on the National Badminton Academy at Scotstoun to compete in the final Bank of Scotland National Junior Championships.
Holly, from Mauchline, helped herself to a double. Last year’s runner-up in the girls’ doubles went one better as she won the doubles with new partner Cara McCulloch (Catrine). The top seeds beat Bethany Cook (Mauchline) and Eleanor O’Donnell (Beith) in the final.
Holly also finished the day as singles champion, beating Shona Whillans (Longniddry) 21-8 in the final, while Cook reached the semi-finals of the singles.
In the boys’ events, Stewart Dyce (Mauchline) reached the semi-finals, playing with Alex Dunn (Motherwell), before being narrowly beaten by eventual champions Matthew Duguid and Stuart Holley (Stonehaven).
