Cricket: Hope for Papps

AYR Cricket Club are hoping for a breakthrough this week in their chase to bring New Zealand pro Michael Papps into the country.

The Cambusdoon men have been frustrated by red tape as they try to get a start date for the former Test opening bat.

However, chairman Andy Baird revealed: “There has been some progress and by the end of this week we may have an idea as to when he may arrive.”

Wet weather was the winner with not a ball being bowled for any of the games, senior or junior.

This week, Ayr were hoping for better with a triple home header against Glasgow Accies on Tuesday in the Rowan Cup, Aberdeen in the Premier League on Saturday and Prestwick in the West League Cup on Sunday.

The Cambusdoon XI are away to Bothwell on Saturday and Greenock on Sunday.
