MEMBERS of the Burakudo Karate Club represented the Scottish Karate Alliance squad in the children and cadets world karate championships in Jeslo, Italy.
Ayr man Bill Hair was raised to world kata and kumite referee. He was senior referee in the boys 13-14 years kata. Matt McLaughlan became a word kata and kumite judge while Bob Carter was world kata referee and kumite judge.
Competitors who represented the SKA were Blair Olesen (18-20 junior kumite), Simon Loy, Alistair Coburn, David Carter (boys’ cadet kumite 15-17 years), Tammy McLaughlan (girls 14 years), Jennifer Black (girls 13 years), Andrew Carter, Adam Steven (boys’ 13-14 years), Declyn Hood boys (11 years), Shannon Smith, Jay Scott (girls 15-17 years).
Coaches were Raymond Ferrier and Kirsty Hair while child welfare officer Jan Black was also in attendance.
Kirsty Campbell gained bronze in the 15-17 years cadet section while Aidan Smith took silver in the boys’ open kumite eight years section.
There are classes in Irvine, Kilwinning, Ardrossan, Ayr, Kilmarnock, Prestwick, Monkton, Mossblown and Troon. New starts welcome
