Ice Skating: Ayrshire Flyers speed to records

TWO Scottish records and many personal bests were the haul for Ayrshire Flyers Speed skaters at the Scottish 3000m Championships at Dundee.

Craig Miller was a convincing winner in the ‘A’ final where he continued his great season, consistently bringing down his PBs. He was one of the two who got a Scottish record with a great time of 5.28.54.

Alison Walker, the only girl among all the boys, was placed fifth and achieved a Scottish record in 5.45.08, taking ten seconds off the original time. Euan Taylor was seventh.

In the ‘B’ final, it was all down to the local boys with Rhys Brown first in 6.01.43 from Stewart Logan (6.01.47) and Roy Walker, at his first attempt, third with a personal best of 6.04.87.

Rosslyn Waite was fourth with Shannon Scott sixth. Kathryn Thomson fell and did not finish.

Ayrshire Flyers skate at the Magnum on Thursdays 4.45-6.15pm and Sundays 12.15-1.30pm. The club are coached by Archie Marshall, a former Olympian coach and skater. New members are welcome.
