Athletics: Ayro stars take on Scotland

MEMBERS of the Ayrodynamic Triathlon Club were well represented at the Scottish Middle Distance (or half-Ironman) Championships at Aberfeldy.

The strong field consisted of 197 individuals and teams, including Catriona Morrison who had recently retained her World Long Distance Duathlon title. The race started with an 1.9k swim in Loch Tay then a 90k cycle in and around the shadow of Schiehallion, to finish with a 20k run.

Ayrodynamic had two teams and four individuals taking part. First home in fifth was Team 'Killie Colts' in 4:52:42 posted by Gregor Grant, Kenny Girvan and Dougie Munro. The second team arrived seven minutes later in 4:59:39. Team 'Ayrodynamic dilly da' consisted of veterans Tom Reid, Davy Auchie and Alastair Stewart.

First club individual to cross the line and back in Scotland after spending a year in New Zealand was Andy Kerr in 30th place overall (5:03:54). Alan Auld (5:12:06), Colin Davidson (6:33:20) and John Crum (6:51:32) all completed the tough course.

Meanwhile, Angus Peden continued his good form with his third victory in a row at the Wick Sprint Triathlon (750m pool swim, 20k bike, 5k run) in 1:02:04 out of a field of 37.

Angus and many of the club's other athletes are hoping for more success in this Sunday's British Sprint Distance Championships at Strathclyde Country Park.
