Tai chi classes will bring new posture to Prestwick

THE ANCIENT Chinese martial art of tai chi has arrived at Prestwick Tennis Club.

Dr Norberto Peralta , who has been involved in martial arts for more than 25 years, will lead the classes on Thursdays from 6pm to 6.45pm and from 8pm to 8.45pm.

He will also be leading classes at Prestwick Community Education Centre at Caerlaverock Road, starting with a workshop on Saturday, August 23.

Classes will then take place on Tuesdays, starting from Tuesday, August 26, at 10.30am to 11.15am and from 11.15am to noon.

Tai Chi is a sequence of flowing, dynamic movements, which not only relaxes the mind and body, but can also lead to weight loss, improved posture and greater flexibility.

Said Dr Peralta: “Most of our life is lived at speed, we run around trying to balance work, kids, bills, shopping and everyday functions, all to arrive where?

“There is a solution to understand your body and mind. Practising tai chi puts your body back in balance. The Chinese have known for many thousands of years that the mind and body worked as one, and the balance between the two is important to keep you free from disease and illness.”

One of the best things about this ancient practice is it suitable for people of all ages and all levels of physical fitness.

Tai chi is taught to young children in China and Dr Peralta advocates teaching teenagers, all the way through the generations.
