Horse Racing: Ladies head to Ayr Racecourse

AYR Racecourse stages a seven race card for its annual WaterAid Ladies Night on Saturday with 192 runners entered at the five day stage.

The action starts with an apprentice race – the Betfair Apprentice Training Series Handicap over six furlongs at 5.50pm.

Often in races like this, the jockey can be as important as the horse so look out for what the better apprentices like Barry McHugh, Gary Bartley and Luke Morris are riding.

The WaterAid EBF Maiden Stakes at 6.20pm is also over six furlongs this time for two-year-olds.

Mark Johnston had no fewer than five entered for this so obviously the one he chooses to run could be the one to be on.

Linda Perratt had a couple of winners at this meeting last year and has a string of entries including Shunkawakhan in the Ladies Day September 19 Handicap at 8.20pm. Owned by the Partick Thistle Racing Club, this will be fancied to score.

The final race on the card at 8.50pm, the Macdonalds Solicitors Handicap Stakes, sees the in form Jim Goldie saddle Killer Class already a multiple winner this season and the filly could make it win number four in this contest.
