AYR Racecourse holds its traditional Glasgow Fair Festival fixture on Monday when the seven race card is sponsored by Giles Insurance.
Feature race is the £40,000 Giles Insurance Heritage Handicap over five furlongs at 4.30pm. With a prize of more than £25,000 to the winner this is sure to attract a quality field of sprinters.
Main support event is the £10,000 Giles Insurance Corporate Handicap over six furlongs at 4pm while the European Breeders Fund Maiden Stakes over six furlongs for two- year- olds should throw up some interesting stars of the future.
First race comes under starter’s orders at 2.30pm and the course opens at 12.30pm. More details from www.ayr-racecourse.co.uk or call 0870-8505666.
Meanwhile, Irvine born jockeys were in fine form at Ayr on Monday at the Renault Vans Raceday. David Allan rode a double and Danny Tudhope also notched a winner.
Allan’s first winner was Invincible Lad (9/4 fav) in the Dawn Construction Handicap when the Eric Alston trained sprinter scored by a length from Until When (8/1). David’s double came on board another Alston trained horse No Grouse (8/1) in the Parks Renault Handicap Stakes.
Speaking after win number two, David said: “I left Irvine when I was 12 and moved to Stockton hence the English accent but my dad still lives there and comes to watch me racing. The season is going great and that’s me on 33 winners.”
Tudhope teamed up with Uplawmoor trainer Jim Goldie to land the Arnold Clark Renault Fillies Handicap on Rothesay Dancer (4/1 co fav) by half a length from Dorn Dancer (4/1 co fav).
Midlothian based trainer Peter Monteith saddled Shy Glance (8/1) under Neil Brown to come with a surging late run to beat Annibale Caro (100/30) in the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Handicap.
Two beaten favourites were Chief Red Cloud ( 2/1) and Capucci (1/2) who both finished down the field in their respective races.
