MARR paid for failing to capitalise on chances as they crashed 44-17 away to National Division Three leaders Allan Glens.
Marr raced ahead in the tenth minute when Gary Andrew ran in from 20 metres for his first try of the season. Rory McGee converted.
Glens began to dominate the play and equalised ten minutes later. Another try, followed by a penalty, took the score to 17-7.
Marr struck back through a McGee penalty taking the score to 17-10. With just a couple of minutes left in the first half, Glens had a back row sent to the sin bin for stamping.
Marr initially made the most of this one man advantage and Andrew Gault ran in a try which was converted to level the scores. But Glens grabbed another try for a 24-17 interval lead.
In the second half, Glens ran in three tries and kicked a penalty without response for a comfortable win.
The scoreline is slightly misrepresentative as Marr had chances but were unable to make the most of them.
Marr 2nd XV beat fifth placed Cumbernauld 25-8 at Fullarton Park. Ross Campbell started at stand-off, Chris Myers came into the second row for his first start of the year while Jordan Grey started his first game of the season coming into the centre.
Campbell, Kurt Davies and Grey all scored tries while Kris Galloway was reliable with the boot.
Second row Myers was man of the match after a strong performance in the set piece and the loose. Campbell made several line breaks while Grey also had a strong first game back, scoring a great try and defending well.
On Saturday, the firsts entertain Hawick Linden while the seconds travel to Cambuslang (both 3pm).
