Marr Rugby Club beat Hillfoots

MARR stayed second top in National Division Three with a 24-13 win away to Hillfoots.

With a low mist and a heavy pitch, Marr started playing uphill and raced ahead when Andrew Gault ran in the first try after a nice scissors in the centre of the field by Rory McGee and Matt Pittam.

McGee then slotted a penalty before Andrew Watson ran in the second try of the afternoon. McGee converted.

Hillfoots hit back with a try and a penalty taking the half-time score to10-15.

Marr added another McGee penalty early on in the second half but Hillfoots didn’t lie down and pegged them back.

However, Marr kept the score board ticking through two McGee penalties. Hillfoots were unable to breakdown a powerful Marr defensive display and managed only to add a penalty.

This was a good away win against a bigger pack. The pack played well with Steven Kirk doing particularly well, picking up the man on the match award after a good performance both in the loose and line-out.

Don Morrison had another strong match in the back row. In the back line, McGee had a good day with the boot while Gault tackled well and sub Shaun Little played well when he came on in the centre.

Saturday sees both teams at home, the firsts against Lenzie and the seconds against Ardrossan, both at 2pm.
