MARR held on to second place in National Division Three with a 62-29 win away to second bottom Hawick Linden.
On a glorious day, Marr raced ahead in three minutes. Andrew Gault made a great break which set up a two on one and he moved the ball on to Ali Walker who had a free run in. Rory McGee converted.
Hawick levelled with a converted try and then took the lead five minutes later when Marr gave away a kickable penalty for offside.
It took just four minutes for Marr to reclaim the lead when, on an overlap, Sean Reddox stepped inside and beat the defence to touch down with McGee converting.
Marr ran in two further tries to open a 10-26 lead at the break. The second half started in a similar vein with Marr running in an early try as Frank McGerty popped the ball to Reddox who beat the defence before touching down to take the score to 10-31.
Their second try of the second half came from talismanic winger Andrew Watson. A Hawick scrum on the halfway line led to a ruck which saw Ryan Kirk steal the ball, it was then shipped to Watson who took full advantage of both the width of the pitch and his searing pace. McGee added the extra two points.
Next on the score sheet was Gault who was quickly followed by Reddox who completed his hat-trick. As the game entered the final quarter, Hawick ran in a try but Marr struck back when an Andrew Bate box kick left the Hawick left wing exposed with Bate, Watson and Kris Kirk bearing down on him. The ball was turned over and Bate took full advantage to touch down with McGee converting.
Hawick’s never say die attitude brought a third try but Marr's final try came from Watson whose second of the afternoon took Marr's points total to 62. Hawick had the final say with their fourth try for a well deserved bonus point.
Flanker Don Morrison put in his second man of the match performance in two weeks. Gault had another good game at full back as did Bate at scrum half while Neil Campion played well in the front row.
The 2nd XV’s game against Cumbernauld was postponed due to the lack of a referee. On Saturday, the firsts host fourth top Gordonians while the seconds entertain West of Scotland 2A who also sit fourth.
