MARR gained an unlikely bonus point with the last play of the match as they beat Allan Glens 34-11 to stay second in National Division Three.
The Fullarton men raced 13-0 ahead, all the points coming from stand-off Rory McGee who slotted two penalties and ran in a try. The touchdown came after Shaun Reddox made the break and passed inside to Rory who ran in from 20 metres out. McGee converted.
Glens fought back and began to totally dominate the scrum but managed only two penalties before the break.
Glens then asserted their dominance in the scrum and at the breakdown and it was only a matter of time before they crossed the line from a quick tap penalty, which took the score to 13-11.
Marr lost Fraser Ferguson to a rib injury and then John Duncan limped out of the game. Marr got on top and Andrew Watson broke down the left, beating a couple of defenders before touching down under the posts. McGee converted.
McGee then ran a lovely line to break through the defence for a try which he converted himself.
Marr were now chasing what had seemed like a highly unlikely bonus point and got it with the last play, the elusive Andrew Gault weaving in and out, leaving defenders in his wake to cross the line. McGee converted.
The McLennan, Adam and Davis man of the match was McGee with his contribution of two tries and 14 points from his boot.
Marr 2nd XV beat Newton Stewart 39-14 to continue their fine start to the season. There were tries from Stephen Logie, Kurt Davies, Lloyd Allam, Luke Davies and Nathan Gilmore. Penalties: Chris Galloway (2). Conversions: Galloway (4).
Kurt Davies was man of the match after a good shift in the back row, scoring a try, tackling well and putting in good work at the breakdown.
On Saturday, the 1st XV travel to bottom of the league Hawick Linden while the seconds head to fourth in the league Cumbernauld, both at 3pm.
