MARR made it three wins out of four when they beat Trinity Accies 30-8 to sit second in National Division Three behind leaders Aberdeenshire.
Trailing to a 32nd minute penalty, Marr equalised three minutes later but they were dealt a blow just before the break when Andrew Bate had to retire injured. Rory McGee moved to scrum half while Ali Walker came on at stand-off. At half time Marr made another change with John Duncan coming on for Fraser Ferguson.
A McGee penalty edged Marr ahead. Trinity then had their number 8 shown yellow and in stepped Scott Bickerstaff with two tries, the second after he beat four players. The conversion took the score to 18-8.
A wonderful tackle by Andrew Gault denied Trinity. Keith Dunsmuir replaced Frank McGerty and Marr struck again when Bickerstaff rounded off his man of the match performance with a third try which was converted.
The final try came in the 80th minute after some good running Shaun Reddox scored.
In addition to Bickerstaff, Gault had a good game as did McGee playing the second half at scrum half.
A weakened Marr 2nd XV lost 29-7 to Strathendrick at Fintry. They suffered when winger David Drummond was injured and replaced by Greg Hillier. Marr then lost captain Mark Underwood to a calf injury while Chris Mill came on in the second row.
Trailing 5-0 at the break, Marr scored early in the second half when Nathan Gilmore ran from deep in his own half, beating several players on the way to scoring. Chris Galloway converted.
Marr then lost hooker Graeme Currie to a head injury which led to uncontested scrums for the remainder of the match. Then Colin White went off win the last couple of minutes.
On Saturday, the 1st XV travel to Helensburgh while the seconds hosts Cambuslang.
Marr U16s crushed Annan 60-0 to get their youth cup campaign off to a flier with Tony Boyd running in five tries. Other scorers were McMaster, Mill, McCabe, Scott and Adair. Rudi Marshall added conversions.
