Marr Rugby Club end on a high

UNDERSTRENGTH Marr ended their National League Three season with a 25-19 win away to Lenzie.

Several players were missing through injury while a team was touring Northern Ireland. Marr were without Stuart Evans and Kevin Pattie who were replaced by John Duncan and Iain Downie. The back line was more seriously hit with Shaun Little, Andrew Watson and Scott Bickerstaff all missing. In their place Matt Pitam, Luke Davies and Ali Walker started.

Marr quickly turned their territorial dominance into points. Lenzie were penalised at the break down and Pitam stepped up to score the first points, adding a second kick soon after.

However, Lenzie hit back with a try to cut the deficit to a single point but Marr replied when captain Robbie Lockie broke from inside the Lenzie half, slicing through the defence like a razor before offloading to Rory McGee who crossed the line to score their first try. McGee converted.

Marr then rang the chances with Kurt Davies coming on in the back row and Ryan Kirk coming on to the wing. Although they took their foot off the pedal, Lenzie were unable to take advantage before the break.

Marr started the second half at 100 miles an hour and blew Lenzie away with two tries in quick succession. The first came after a series of rucks on the Lenzie line, hooker Stuart Millar picked up and drove over the line with McGee adding the conversion to take the score to 5-20. Stuart continues his run of scoring in each of the last three games.

Marr's second try of the half came just minutes later as Ryan Kirk made a break, beating several defenders before being brought down just short of the line. However, he had the presence of mind to pop the ball to Kurt Davies who crashed over the line in the corner.

Lenzie then rallied and scored a three tries in the last 15 minutes to finish six points adrift.

Marr deserved this win which was particularly impressive given the players they had missing. Marr's man of the match award went to centre Pitam who caused the opposition problems with powerful bursts through the middle of the pitch. The young players all worked hard as did substitutes Kurt Davies and Ryan Kirk.
