Ayr Rugby Club urge United to follow their lead

TITLE winning Ayr Rugby Club have urged Ayr United to follow them to glory.

The Millbrae trail blazers, who won the Premier One title for the first time in their history, will receive the trophy and medals from SRU president Jim Stevenson at the end of Saturday’s game against Glasgow Hawks.

Around 300 guests will be entertained at a marquee hospitality lunch while the Ayr squad will also receive a memento from the club.

In the evening, club members, partners, supporters and friends of Millbrae are welcome to the marquee event which will include a live band beginning at 8pm.

Ayr, who will receive a council civic reception on Friday April 3, will be guests at Somerset Park the following day when United take on Stirling.

The players will parade the trophy on the pitch at half-time and take a bow before the fans.

Proud president Billy McHarg said: “It would be nice for the community if Ayr United could win their championship as well. We’ve had a season to remember although if we could win the cup as well that would be the icing.

“Inviting us to Somerset is a nice touch and all the players are looking forward to it.”
