WINTER’S havoc has given Ayr Rugby Club the chance to clinch their first ever Premier One title on home soil.
Saturday March 7 will be the biggest day in Millbrae’s history when Edinburgh Accies come to town with Ayr needing only four points to wrap up the championship.
The re-cast fixture list comes after Ayr’s Scottish Hydro Electric Cup trip to Livingston was frozen off last weekend.
That tie is now re-scheduled for Saturday when Ayr will be hot favourites to see off the Premier Three whipping boys.
The following Sunday (March 1), they will be in fifth round action when they travel to play either Gordonians or Hawick.
That leaves the following Saturday clear for Kenny Murray’s men to seal the title in front of a bumper home support.
It was bad weekend for Scotland's international sides with the Scotland side and the U20 team losing in France and the Scotland ‘A’ side thumped in Dublin.Although the Club international side lost 13-12 in Rouen, they came closest to getting a Scottish win.
The five Ayr representatives, GordonReid, Pat MacArthur, Scott Sutherland, Andy Dunlop and AJ McFarlane acquitted themselves well after the Scots went behind 10-0 to fight back to lose by only a point. It bodes well for the match against the Ireland club international side at Myreside on Friday March 13.
MARR return to action at home to Isle of Arran on Saturday (kick-off 3pm) in the first round of the Scottish Hydro Electric bowl. Arran are coming off the back of a heavy defeat away to Greenock Wanderers. The 2nd XV head to top of the table Greenock.
CARRICK entertain Edinburgh BATs in the Scottish Hydro Electric Cup West Region plate round two at Rozelle (kick-off 2pm).
