MARR Rugby Club ended the season on a low note with a crushing 45-0 defeat away to second-placed Hawick YM.
The Fullarton men were once again without key players in Stuart Evans, Darren O’Connor, Don Morrison, Barry Kirk, David Moffat, Gavin Anderson and Andrew Gault.
The players stepping up all put in a good showing. Scrum half David Drummond, playing his second game for the firsts in two weeks, coped well under pressure while prop Mark Underwood also did well.
Schoolboy prop Frazer Ferguson made several powerful runs. Rory Magee at stand-off had another all round good game, tackling and moving the ball well.
The defeat, which combined with Lasswade’s away win against Lismore, sees Marr drop to fifth but this has been a good season after two league titles in a row and promotion.
Finishing in the top half is a good return and gives them a solid platform to build on next season.
Attention now turns to the sevens season which kicks off this weekend in Arran.
