Ayr hockey gents move into next round

AYR Gents 2nd XI progressed through the preliminary stage of the District Cup beating Giffnock 2nd XI 1-0 at home.
Ayr maintained a constant pressure on the Giffnock defence which held firm until Simon Downie scored from a penalty corner rebound.
The home side hit the post on at least two other occasions but lacked a little composure near the Giffnock goal.
Aswin Nair and Tom Sparks worked tirelessly in midfield combining with Fraser Ross and Adam Hunter up front.
In defence, David Boyle played another solid game while Chris Taylor in goal had two good saves to keep a clean sheet.
Ayr progress to the next round against Harris 2nd XI in Dundee on October 26.
Next week Ayr play Western III in Glasgow.
