Students are too hot for Ayr

AYR Ladies first XI lost 2-1 away to Dundee University despite a battling performance.

Ayr fell behind when Dundee struck from a short corner. Then the last player behind goalie Fiona Gray inadvertently gave away a flick which Dundee put away to double their lead at half-time.

Megan Clark, stand-in captain for the day, urged the team to go for it and this led to a much better performance. Marian Hunter, goalie and man of the match, made some impressive saves before Ayr pulled one back with a good move starting with Alison Patrick, through the left ending with a great team effort from Shona Shankland, Michelle Kennedy and a successful strike by Megan.

Ayr men’s 2nd X1 secured much needed points beating Glasgow Accies 3-2 at home. Frazer McCurdy scored after a superb solo dribble through the Accies’ defence.

A second goal followed before half time when Adam Hunter picked up and converted a Tom Adams free hit inside their circle.

In the second half, Cammy Thorne was unlucky to be yellow carded for what was deemed a deliberate stick tackle. This set a precedent for what developed into a physical tussle with three Accies players at one point all in the sin bin at one time.

John Weir scored for Accies from a penalty corner rebound before Ayr went 3-1 up from a superb drag flip by Tom Adams low in the left hand corner.

Accies scored a second goal in the dying minutes from a defensive error but Ayr were comfortable winners.

Ayr men’s 3rd X1 continued their great run by beating a strong Clydesdale 5th 5-1 in Glasgow.

Ayr raced ahead when Paul Steel ran on to a Johnny Sutcliffe pass and scoring a super goal.

Clydesdale pushed and it took some great defending from Murray McBride and Neil Riddle to keep them out.

Ayr then grabbed two terrific goals from Sutcliffe and Brian Robb to go 3-0 up at half time.

In the second half, Steel scored again, running on to a super pass from David Boyle.

Clydesdale got one back only for Ayr to run back up the park and Robb netted his second to keep up his recent fine scoring form.

Ayr men’s 4th X1 beat a plucky Ansar side 2-0 at Cambusdoon on Saturday.

Ayr started well with strong running from midfielders Tom Spark and Steven Agnew creating chances for the attack.

Shortly after the interval Ayr got in behind the Ansar defence when Cameron Woods supplied a pass to man of the match Ross Wallace at the top of the circle and he calmly slotted an excellent shot past the keeper.

Ayr sealed victory midway through the second half when, after some excellent build up play on the left between Ruairidh McCurdy and Wallace, the ball found William Boyle in a crowded circle who finished well from close range.
