Megan is a double hit for ladies

AYR ladies 1st X1 scored their first win of the year when they beat Boroughmuir 2-1 in Edinburgh on Saturday.

With a few regulars missing, a number of players were out of position but despite carrying a few injuries, Ayr dug in.

Megan Clark scored both goals, the first a flamboyant effort, ending with a swan dive across the goalmouth.

Alison Patrick and Caroline Davidson shared the player of the match award.

Ayr ladies 2nd X1 lost 1–0 to Giffnock on Saturday in a game of windswept frustration.

Despite playing well and piling on the pressure, they could not convert their chances. Elaine Reid and Shona Howie combined well up front to steal possession on numerous occasions.

Giffnock managed into Ayr’s circle only twice and sneaked the ball into the goal much to the frustration of keeper Valerie Parker.

On Sunday, the 2nd X1 lost 1–0 to Hillhead in the third round of the plate. It was a rough game but captain Lucy Crone was delighted with the performance of everyone, particularly juniors Fiona Preston, Lindsay Knox, Shona Howie and Catriona MacGregor.

Cat MacGregor moved to right defence and played brilliantly, not only in defence, but pushing well up the right.

The seconds host Glasgow Accies on Saturday at 12 noon.

Ayr men’s 1st X1, sponsored by Ashleigh, put up a brave display to league leaders Grange 2nd X1 before losing 3-1.

Grange made a good start but Ayr defended well with a particularly good performance by man of the match goalkeeper Danny Grier.

Ayr had several attacks but most of the pressure was applied by Grange who struck with a well converted goal.

Ayr heads did not go down, however, and they began to press which paid off with a well taken goal by Alan Low.

This fired up Ayr but they couldn’t turn pressure into goals and two late strikes from Grange settled the game.
