AYR men’s 2nds threw away a 3-1 lead to lose 4-3 to a young Western thirds.
Western took the lead from a penalty corner after a shot at goal was deflected past the Ayr defence by one of their own players. James Smith equalised and a double from Cliff Martin, the second a penalty after James Smith was fouled, put Ayr in charge.
However, Western struck back three times to seal victory, the second goal a good solo effort from Scottish veteran Gordon McKenzie. This weekend, Ayr will try to play a re arranged game against Kelburne 4.
Ayr men’s 3rds hit form to beat Helensburgh 2nds 7-3.
Ayr pushed hard from the start with James Edwards and Craig Milby running the midfield. The opener came when Milby ran on to a great pass from Paul Steel to score a super goal.
Steel then hit two great goals but Helensburgh got one back before the break.
The visitors then stunned Ayr with two quick goals to level the score but up popped goal machine Paul Steel who hit a screaming shot to put Ayr back in front.
Murray McBride then scored two great goals from short corners and it was left to Fraser Ross to score his first goal for the 3rds and cap a great fighting team performance.
