Ayr Seaforth win national indoor medals at the Kelvin Hall

AYR Seaforth athletesenjoyed a busy weekend at the Kelvin Sports Arena in the national indoor age group championships.

These Scottish championshipsattract the best athletes from not only Scotland but also Ireland and England with many medals won by top performers from outside Scotland.

Although the number of Seaforth competitors was disappointing on both days, there were still several excellent results and personal bests.

The medal tally over the two days was: Saturday: two silvers from under 20 women: Rachel Hunter in the shot putt (10m 89) and Hazel Jamieson in the high jump (1m 60).

On Sunday, there was gold for Scott McAnally in the under 16 boys’ high jump (1m80) and two bronze from Fraser Angus in the under 14 long jump (4m 37) and Hannah Paisley in the under 14 girls’ shot putt (7m 92 (pb).

Saturday’s results: Under 20: Rachel Hunter: 2nd in shot putt 10m89. Hazel Jamieson: 2nd in high jump 1m60. Caroline George: 4th in 60m 8.07 secs. Johnny Thompson: 5th in 60m (heat) 7.55 secs.

Under 18: Shaun Rennie: 4th in triple jump 11m 91. Wallace Graham: 3rd in 60m heat 7.53. Carolyn Harvey: 4th in 60m hurdles (heat) 10.06 and 4th in triple jump 10m 08 (pb).

Sunday’s results: Under 16: boys: Scott McAnally: 1st high jump 1m 80. Girls: Rebecca Spence: 3rd 60m (semi-final) 8.30 (heat 8.29 pb). Aimee McGinley: 6th 60m (semi-final) 8.60 (heat 8.56 pb). Louise Murray: 3rd 60m hurdles (heat) 9.88 (equals pb). Charlotte Crossland: 5th 60m (heat) 9.08, 5th 60m hurdles (heat) 10.31 (pb). Emily Reece 6th 60m hurdles (heat) 10.73 and 10th high jump 1m35. Lisa Rennie 4th 800m (heat) 2.37.00.

Under 14 boys: Fraser Angus 3rd long jump 4m 37 and 3rd 60m (semi-final) 8.51 (pb) and 5th 200m 28.3 (semi-final 27.99 pb). Andrew Peck: 5th shot putt 8m 59.

Fixtures: Saturday: Scottish secondary schools’ cross country championsips at Irvine.

Sunday: Scottish Athletics Indoor League final and 4x200m relays at the Kelvin Hall. The indoor league final events start with field events, under 13 boys’ long jump at 12.30pm while track events start at 2pm.

The 4x200m relay heats start at noon with the relay finals at 5.20pm. Seaforth will have five age group teams in the league final and will have teams in all the age group 4x200m relays.
