AYRODYNAMIC'S Finlay Rae continued his hot triathlon season by racing in the Elite Youth Race, part of the British Triathlon Super series at Strathclyde Park on a shortened version of the Commonwealth Games course.
Finlay dominated the opening 400m open water swim leg to emerge from the water in 5.33, a few seconds clear of England's Miles Burton and Luke Penney.
The trio worked well together over the 10k bike course to reach the second transition together. The pace set by the other boys on the run was brutal leaving Finlay third on the podium in a total time of 33.51.
Ayrodynamic Triathlon Club hosted the Prestwick Spring Aquathlon last weekend in dramatic weather conditions. The torrential rain and howling wind didn't deter the youngsters who decided a race was a race whatever the weather.
The race started with the eight-year-old (50m swim, 600m run) and Ayrodynamic's Morgan Brown finished strongly in 5.14. Sophie Gardner from Ayr who is new to triathlon also finished in an impressive 4.28.
Ayrodynamic's Scott Sprang had a fantastic race to finish second in his 9-10 age group (150m swim, 1k run) in 6.42. Cameron Black also raced his heart out to win the 11-12 age group (250m swim, 2k run) in 13.00.
Older brother Andrew Black had tough competition in the 13-14 age group (400m swim, 3k run) but ran himself into second place on the last lap. Amy Mole (20.33) and Morgan Smith (23.55) raced solidly in the 13-14 age category and Louisa Kelly put in a great performance following recent illness to finish in 19.09 in the 15-16 group.
Eight hardy triathletes set off for The Isle of Bute last weekend to compete in the Bute Sprint Triathlon. Conditions were described as extremely windy making the 20k cycle very hazardous.
Ironman in training Gregor Grant (1.05.11) has an excellent cycle and run to win the event overall by six seconds. Per Andersson (1.18.39) was next home for the club closely followed by Lorna Todd (1.18.55) who was third female overall and second senior. Tom Reid (1.20.35), Ewan Currie (1.22.49) and Fiona Davidson (1.24.36) also put in sterling performances.
