Ayr Seaforth athletes compete in new age groups at Scotstoun

THE new age groups in Scottish athletics were used for the first time at Scotstoun in cold and blustery conditions last weekend.

Several Ayr Seaforth athletes competed in the under 16 and under 18 track and field events.

Results: U16 females: 80m hurdles: 2. Carolyn Harvey 14.89; 100m: 7 (heat): Alison Leckie 14.42; 200m: 5 (heat): Alison Leckie 29.77.

U18 females: javelin: 1. Aileen Rennie 36.36; high jump: 3. Hazel Jamieson 1.65 (pb); long jump: 1. Carolyn Harvey 5.13 (pb); high jump: 3. Scott McAnally 1.65; 300m hurdles: 1. Carolyn Harvey 49.01 (pb)

U20 women: hammer: 2. Rachel Hunter 47.99; discus: 7. Rachel Hunter 26.06.

U18 males: 100m: 5 (heat): Scott Gibson 12.35; 110m hurdles: 2. Andrew Murphy 14.99 (pb); 200m: 1 (heat) Scott Gibson 24.58; shot putt: 1. Andrew Murphy 14.06; discus: 3. James Gaffney 42.19 (pb); hammer: 1. James Gaffney 35.72; javelin: 1. James Armstrong 45.14, 4. James Gaffney 41.24 (pb); triple jump: 2. Shaun Rennie 10.96 (pb).

Fixtures: Sunday: the second match of the Scottish Young Athletes League takes place at Scotstoun. The Ayrshire Harriers team, comprising athletes from Ayr Seaforth, Kilmarnock and North Ayrshire, are hoping to repeat their good show from the first match when they finished second to Edinburgh AC.

Team bus leaves Ayr rail station car park at 9.15am.
