Ayr Seaforth’s Kirstin Oakley wins silver at Scottish junior road race championships

AYR Seaforth's junior endurance athletes brought the winter season to a close at the Scottish Junior Road Race Championships at Rouken Glen Park in Glasgow.

From 12 athletes taking part, there were three top 10 finishes, including a silver medal for Kirstin Oakley.

She rounded off a super cross country season to take second place in the under 13 girls race. The silver medal was a fantastic addition to the two national cross country titles which she had won already this winter and an excellent fourth place in the McCains UK Cross Country series.

In the same race, there were road race debuts for Amy Palmer and Siobhan Rae who helped give Seaforth eighth team slot. Louisa Kelly continued her recent goodracing form in the under 15 girls race to finish an excellent 17th. Leigh McLevy was 40th in the same race.

Louise Hill-Stirling was the sole entrant for the under 20 women’s race and was an excellent sixth. She ran a fast 19:08 for the 5k course.

The under 15 boys race saw Ben Steven and James Pettigrew both run strongly to finish 33rd and 37th respectively. Finlay Rae used the under 17 men's race to help prepare for his duathlon and finished a creditable fifth.

Euan Webster had another solid performance to take 14th place while third team counter Adam Steven was 31st. The Seaforth team finished fourth, narrowly missing out on the bronze medal.

Andrew Rae rounded off the day in the under 20 men's race, finishing 22nd in 17:05.
