AYR Seaforth athletes stood on the medal podium 10 times during the two days of the Scottish open age group championships at Scotstoun last weekend.
And there was also an exciting superteams competition with an under 13 girls team from Seaforth finishing an excellent ninth from 29 teams.
Highlight of the Scottish Championships was the double gold medals won by 15-year-old Caroline George in the under 17 women`s 100 metres (12.52 secs) and the 200 metres (25 secs).
Caroline won both sprints with ease which will prepare her for an even tougher task this weekend when she travels to Bedford for the English AAA under 17 championships.
Three silver medals were won by Aaron Gray (U17 men`s 400m in a pb 51.56), Aileen Rennie (U17 women’s javelin 34.20) and James Armstrong (U15 boys’ javelin pb 41.97).
Five bronze medals were claimed by Andrew Murphy who had a hat-trick in the under 17’s 100m hurdles (14.36 pb), pole vault (3.20) and shot putt (13.55).
In the under 15 boys’ events, Scott McAnally was third in the high jump (1.70) while Shaun Rennie was third in the triple jump (10.57 pb).
Other results: U17 women: Hazel Jamieson: 4th in high jump (1.55). U15 girls: 75m hurdles: Carolyn Harvey 4th in 12.34 (pb) , Sophie Dunlop 5th 12.45 (pb) and Alison Leckie (heats) 100m, 7th in 14.54 and 5th in 200m.
U17 men: Wallace Graham 3rd in 100m (semi-final), 11.86 (qualified for final but retired injured); Scott Gibson 7th in 100m (12.22) and 7th in 200m (24.16); Finlay Ray: 5th in 1500m (4.06.62 pb); James Gaffney: 4th in discus (38-53), 4th in hammer (30.40 pb) and 7th in javelin (36.89).
U15 boys: James Armstrong: 4th in discus (25.83), Scott McAnally: 4th in shot putt (10.55 pb); Lewis Anderson: 5th in shot putt (10.28); Lewis Anderson: 6th in 100m heat (12.82) and 5th in 200m heat (26.50).
On Saturday, a team of four girls from Seaforth competed in the U13 superteams competition and finished ninth from 29 teams. Winners Law & District scored 278 points with Seaforth on a very creditable 236 points.
