Athletics: Ayr Seaforth’s Sam Revie and Caroline George star for Scotland

TWO Ayr Seaforth athletes helped Scottish Schools finish third in the Home Countries Schools International at Scotstoun last Saturday.

Flying the flag were Sam Revie (Marr College) and Caroline George (Belmont Academy).

Winners were a strong and impressive England team with Ireland second and Wales fourth.

Sam’s results:.100m: 11.14 (pb); .200m: 23.09; Caroline; 100m: 12.58; 200m: 25.68. Sam and Caroline were in the Scottish 4x100m relay teams. The girls were second in 48.64 behind England (47.90). The boys were fourth (44.86) behind winners England in 41.94.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Senior National Championships and Commonwealth trials together with the Scottish National Junior 4 x100m Relay Championships took place at Pitreavie.

There was a disappointing entry from Seaforth senior athletes with only two females, both under 20s.

Meghan Logue, 18, ran in the senior ‘B’ 400m final in 62.00 secs while 16-year-old Rachel Hunter was unlucky not to collect two bronze medals in the shot putt, finishing fourth with a personal best 11m95. She was fourth in the hammer with 42m22.

Due to holidays, only three relay teams competed at the national relays on Sunday from the six teams entered. However, all three teams did well to reach the finals and finished as follows.

Under 13 girls: fifth in 4x100m (58.22), ran 57.5 sec in the heat. Team: Katie Vallance, Nadia Simpson, Louise Murray and Ailie Shanks.

Under 15 girls: 6th in 4x100m (56.88) but ran 55.68 secs in the heat. Team: Alice Arnold, Caitlin Gillon, Dana Izat and Carolyn Harvey.

Under 17 men: 4th in 4x100m (45.9) The winning team was Edinburgh AC in 44.91 in a close finish. Seaforth team was: Scott Gibson, Scott Jones, Angus Arnold and Wallace Graham.

Fixtures: Sunday at Dam Park: the Ayrshire Track and Field Athletic Championships (all age groups) starting noon. Entries from 1030am, all entries close at 1pm.

Pre-entries are required for hurdles, young athletes (U11 to U17) limited to three events (£1 per event), seniors and U20, £2 per event. Confined to athletes from Ayrshire clubs and schools.
