Ayr Seaforth star Caroline George strikes gold

AYR Seaforth flier Caroline George kept up her stunning form with another gold.

The 15-year-old won the under 17’s 100 metres at the Bank of Scotland closed Scottish championships at Wishaw.

Caroline, last season’s double champion at 100m and 200m, equalled her championship best time of 12.60 secs in her heat and won the final in 12.63 secs against a strong head wind.

Six hours later, Caroline took silver in the 200 metres in 26.31 secs.

Sam Revie, 15, took double silver in the under 17 men’s 100 metres (11.60) and 200 metres (23.42). He produced a personal best 23.27 in his 200m heat, also in windy conditions.

Hazel Jamieson, 16, equalled her personal best of 1.60, to take silver in the under 17 women’s high jump.

Fifteen-year-old Wallace Graham, last year’s U17’s 100m champion, retired injured after finishing second in his 100m heat in 11.93.

Other results: U17 women: Aileen Rennie: 4th in javelin (31.02).

U15 girls: Carolyn Harvey: 6th in 75m hurdles (12.87), heat (12.61); 4th in 200m heat (29.32); Caitlin Gillon: 6th in 100m heat (14.16), 5th in 200m heat (29.76); Alison Leckie: 4th in 100m heat (14.39), 3rd in 200m heat (29.13).

U17 men: Scott Gibson: 3rd in 100m heat (12.34), 6th in 200m heat (24.35); Angus Arnold: 5th in 100m heat (12.55), 5th in 200m heat (24.56); Scott Jones: 5th in 400m (54.56 pb).

U15 boys: Lewis Anderson: 7th in 100m (12.77 pb).

Meanwhile, three Seaforth athletes helped Team West Coast finish fifth overall in the inter regional championships at Wishaw on Sunday.

Sixteen-year-old Rachel Hunter, competing as an under 20 woman, was fourth in the hammer with a personal best 46.96, third in the shot putt with a personal best 11.94 and fifth in the discus with 30.97.

Under 20 woman Meghan Logue produced a season’s best in the 400 metres to finish fifth in the ‘A’ final in 62.09 secs and was a member of the 4 x 400 relay team.

Under 23 man Andrew McElwee cleared 1.69 in the high jump and starred in the winning 4 x 100m relay team and the 4 x 400 team which was fourth.

Fixtures: Sunday: the second match of the Central and South of Scotland Division One at Grangemouth for all age groups.

As last year’s Division One champions, Seaforth need a full strength team to maintain their challenge at the top.
