Ayr Seaforth men find the going tough at Aberdeen

AYR Seaforth athletes mustered only three senior men and four under 17s for Division One of the Scottish League at Aberdeen on Sunday.

They struggled for points and finished seventh from eight clubs.

Nine females had an easier task and produced several wins to help Team West finish third from eight in the Scottish Women’s League at Grangemouth.

Highlights in the Scottish Women’s League were outstanding personal bests from 16-year-old Rachel Hunter (U20) who was third in the hammer (46.26) and first in the shot putt (11.54).

There was also a sprint double for Caroline George (U17) in the 100 metres (12.9) and 200 metres (26.6) in strong head winds.

Results: senior women: Meghan Logue: 7th in 100m ‘B’ (13.7), 4th in 400m (61.9); Claire Taylor: 4th in 100m (13.5), 4th in 200m ‘B’ (28.6); Rachel Hunter: 1st in shot putt (11.54 pb), 3rd in hammer (46.26 pb), 4th in discus (28.68), 4th in javelin (23.37).

Under 17 women: Caroline George: 1st in 100m (12.9), 1st in 200m (26.6); Alison Rennie: 3rd in javelin (28.45); Hazel Jamieson: shot putt (4.97), 2nd in high jump (1.50).

Under 15 girls: Carolyn Harvey: 5th in 75m hurdles (13.4), 4th in long jump (4.32); Caitlin Gillon: 6th in 100m ‘B’ (14.1), 4th in long jump ‘B’ (3.62), 1st in javelin ‘B’ (15.36).

Under 13 girls: Ailie Shanks: 3rd in 100m (14.7), 3rd in 200m ‘B’ (31.5), 7th in shot putt ‘B’ (4.03).

Seaforth are bidding to retain the title they won last year but need a strong team to do so.
