Sprinting home in Ayr triathlon

A BUMPER 85 athletes took to the water of the River Doon for the Ayr Sprint Triathlon. The 750 metre swim/20k bike/5k run event continues to retain its status as one of the most popular races on the triathlon calendar and saw some excellent times posted.

First out of the water was Ayrodynamic junior Greg Turner in 10:39 setting the early pace. However, a strong bike and run time of 35:27 and 17:34 saw Graham Leitch from Fusion Triathlon Club overtake Greg to take the overall prize in 1:04:16, almost two minutes clear of the rest of the field.

Third place was taken by Andy Buchanan. The first woman over the line was Jo Parker-Morgan from Glasgow Triathlon Club with 1:17:42.

The organising club was well represented, particularly amongst the veterans with Gregor Grant and Alice McNulty taking first prize in this category. Other members competing were David Auchie, Alastair MacFarlane, Rod Henderson, Grant Leitch, Alex Dunlop and Murat Gurun.
