AYR Seaforth under 15 boys raced to silver medals in the Scottish junior 4 x 100 metres relay championships at Pitreavie on Sunday.
Andrew Murphy, Scott Jones, Angus Arnold and Wallace Graham clocked 47.70 secs to finish just behind a well drilled Edinburgh AC team.
Seaforth’s five other teams all performed with credit in a high standard event but missed out on medals.
Under 17 men: Gary MacLeod, Aaron Gray, Scott Gibson, Johnny Thompson: 4th in final (49.14 secs); U17 women: Nicole Adams, Rachel Whittle, Hazel Jamieson, Caroline George: 5th in final (52.41).
Under 13 girls: Alice Arnold, Ailie Shanks, Katherine Trainer, Alison Leckie: 6th in final (58.20, heat 57.50); Under 13 boys: James Pettigrew, Scott McInally, Aaron Tait, Callum Henderson: 4th in heat (58.48).
Under 15 girls: Dana Izat, Caitlin Gillon, Carolyn Harvey, Kendal Ross: 5th in heat (54.77).
lTwo former Seaforth athletes, now both in the RAF, were medal winners at the National Senior Championships at Pitreavie.
Troon’s Stuart Benson, now with Thames Valley Harriers, was third in the 100 metres (10.93 secs) and fourth in the 200 metres (22.24, heat 21.93).
Ayr’s Laura McGawn, now with Windsor, Slough and Eton, was third in the 100 metres hurdles (14.9 secs) and third in the 200 metres (25.61 secs).
Laura is concentrating mainly in the heptathlete event, currently achieving over 5000 points, and now requires only a further 200 to reach Commonwealth Games qualification.
Seaforth’s under 17 star Rachel Whittle, competing as a senior woman, was fourth in the 100 metres (12.77) and fourth in the 200 metres (25.81).
Meghan Logue was fourth in her heat of the senior 200 metres (27.29 secs).
lFixtures: Sunday: Ayrshire track and field championships at Dam Park. Field events start at 11.30am with under 11 boys’ and girls’ long jump and under 13 boys’ discus.
Track events start at 12 noon with under 13 girls’ 70 metres hurdles which require pre-entries with club secretaries. 80 metres heats start at around 1pm.
There will be a full programme of track and field events for all age groups from under 11 upwards.
