Marr pupil lifts bronze at pentathlon

MARR College pupil Rachel Whittle finished third in the Schools international pentathlon at Kelvin Hall, representing the Scottish Schools under 16 girls team.

Her results were: long jump: 4.53m; hurdles: 9.34 sec (new personal best); high jump: 1.68m (new pb); shot: 9.65m; 800m: 2mins 26sec.

Rachel, a member of Ayr Seaforth, scored a new personal best of 3350. Winner was Jazmin Sawyers (England) with 3694 points. The Scotland team finished fourth.

lThe annual Troon Tortoises Championships were presented at the club’s night out in the Adesso restaurant last Friday.

Road running champions were Bobby Miller and Anne Noble. Cross country champions were George MacGregor and Anne Noble. The hill running champion was Tim Downie. Winner of the Christmas handicap race was Angela Cameron.

lAyr Seaforth athletes dominated the Ayrshire Harrier Clubs age group awards for track and field. Results were based on the Ayrshire Track and Field Championships only. Male: U11: Angus Kerr (Kilmarnock); U13: Kian Douglas (Irvine); U15: Finlay Rae (Seaforth); U17: Sean Thompson (Irvine); U20: Andrew McElwee (Seaforth); Senior men: Colin Garrett (Seaforth); Masters/vets: David Phillips (Seaforth).

Females: U11: Ailie Shanks (Seaforth); U13: Carolyn Harvey (Seaforth); U15: Rachel Whittle (Seaforth); U17: Rachel Hunter (Seaforth); U20: Nicol Bunyan (Irvine); Senior women: Kara Tait (Kilmarnock).

Seaforth hold their annual Christmas handicap races at Dam Park on Saturday from 12 noon.
