Ayr Seaforth starlet smashes league record

AYR Seaforth starlet Caroline George smashed a seven-year-old league record on Sunday.

The 13-year-old won the 200 metres in 25.15 secs to set a new under 15 girls best in the Scottish Young Athletes League.

And she also won the 100 metres in a personal best 12.34 secs.

Caroline was named athlete of the match and is now ranked number one in the ‘Power of Ten’ 200 metres for under 15 girls in Scotland.

She is also number two in the UK ‘Power of Ten’ for the same event.

Caroline’s time for the 100 metres ranks her at number one in Scotland for under 15 girls in the ‘Power of Ten’.

Belmont Academy pupil Caroline only joined Seaforth a year ago. Earlier this year, she won the Scottish Schools under 16 indoor 60 metres championship.

Another star was John McAfferty of Irvine AC who had three wins in the under 17 men’s events - high jump (1.95), javelin (42.29) and shot putt (14.50).

The combined Ayrshire team, comprising athletes from Seaforth, Irvine and Kilmarnock Harriers, finished fifth from eight clubs in the second match of the league at Linwood on Sunday.
