AYRSHIRE made it two wins from two in the West of Scotland Inter County Under 18 League on Sunday with a 6½-1½ victory over Stirlingshire at Skelmorlie.
Scores: Stuart Easton (Irvine) beat James Yarnell (Glenbervie) 6&5; Blair Gavin (Barassie) beat Shaun Lynch (Falkirk) 8&7; Murray McCrone (Welbeck) beat Ross Spence (Falkirk) 4&3; Jack Thomas (Irvine) beat Jamie Hunter (Falkirk Tryst) 4&3; Robbie Fitzpatrick (Irvine) halved with Mark McNulty (Dunblane); Louis Murray (Welbeck) beat Colin McGregor (Stirling) 5&4; Darren McCutcheon (Welbeck) lost to Jamie Simpson (Falkirk) one hole; Greg Telfer (St Cuthbert) beat Stuart Irvine (Falkirk) 2&1.
Results so far in the West Under 18 League, for the Wishart Trophy, are: Ayrshire 4½, Renfrewshire 3½; Dunbartonshire 8, Stirlingshire 0; Glasgow 5½, Lanarkshire 2½; Ayrshire 6½, Stirlingshire 1½. Ayrshire's next match is on July 29 against Lanarkshire at Bothwell Castle.
lAYRSHIRE girls lost 4-1 to Lanarkshire, in their first friendly match of the season, at Ballochmyle on Sunday.
Scores: Katie McGarva lost to Emily Glencorse by two holes; Rachel Irvine beat Kirsten Brown by one hole; Alexandra Brown lost to Katie Scott 3&2; Lauren Gilbert lost to Molly Richmond by one hole; Sarah Ramsay lost to Erin Johnston by one hole.
lEUAN WALKER (Kilmarnock Barassie) finished fourth equal in the SGU junior tour event three at Rowallan Castle.
Rounds of 78 and 74 in extremely wet weather on Saturday, followed by rounds of 73 and 74 on Sunday left Walker on 299 alongside Alasdair McDougall (Elderslie), eight shots adrift of the winner Lawrence Allan (Alva).
lPRESTWICK Golf Club played host to leading amateurs when South Africa gained revenge for their home defeat earlier this year by beating Scotland 9½-8½ to clinch the Friendship Quaich.
lROBBIE Allan is Girvan Golf Club’s new junior champion with a gross score of 206 over three rounds. He was followed home by Paul Brown on 268 and Jamie Gaff on 290.
The best net scores for each round were by: Kyle Brown, net 51; David Oliphant, net 50; and David Oliphant again with net 59.
Overall net champ is Kyle Brown on 178, followed by David Oliphant on 180, and Alex McCrindle on 210.
Girvan Golf Club captain John Hilliard presented the trophies, and praised junior convener Willie McMeikan. Reigning men’s champ Gary Bryden leads on 124 after rounds of 60 and 64 in the senior event.
His closest challengers are: Willie McMeikan 126 (61 and 65); Steven Stamper 128 (63 and 65); and Chris Crawford 129 (66 and 63).
The final two rounds are on Thursday and Friday, June 21 and 22, with a presentation in the clubhouse around 9.30pm on Friday.
lENTRY forms are now available for the Tom Lehman Junior Open competition at Troon Municipal on Tuesday, August 7.
The competition was originally axed from the South Ayrshire golfing calendar but then reinstated with sponsorship from Buzzworks.
The trophies for the competition were presented to South Ayrshire by former Open champion Tom Lehman. The 2012 event will also be a counter for the Ayrshire junior order of merit.
