A VETERAN golfer is celebrating his first Scottish cap – at the age of 57.
David Miller has been named in the seven strong Scotland seniors team for the Home Internationals at Woodhall Spa next month.
The Barassie man will dash south after watching Troon Welbeck star Michael Stewart make his Walker Cup debut in Aberdeen.
David, who is president of the Ayrshire Golf Association, admitted: “You never think the chance to represent Scotland will come your way especially when you get to my age.
“It’s an honour for Ayrshire golf and for my club, Kilmarnock Barassie.
“I’ve had a top 10 finish in six order of merit awards this season and was second in the South of Scotland Open at Powfoot.”
A former Ayrshire champion of champion, David was beaten in the Barassie club championship last weekend.”
David, a diehard Ayr United fan for more than 50 years, is determined not to miss Stewart in the Walker Cup.
He said: “I’ll watch Michael in action on the Saturday and then head to Lincolnshire. To get into the Walker Cup is a tremendous achievement and I want to cheer him on.”
