David Glass wins Prestwick Links Championship for the fourth time

DAVID GLASS (St Cuthbert) won the Nickson Trophy and Prestwick Links Championship for the fourth time at a windy Prestwick Golf Club on Saturday evening.

Glass, the winner in 1991, 1998 and 2000, beat 19-year-old Sandy Darroch (St Nicholas) 4&3 after a hot start which saw him win five of the first six holes.

Kenneth McAlpine (St Nicholas) took the handicap Boyd Cup, beating Andrew Scott (St Cuthbert) at the 21st hole.

Prizes were presented by Michael Brown, captain of Prestwick Golf Club. Championship winner Glass paid an emotional tribute to his late father, Jim, who was tournament organiser for many years but passed away a few weeks after the championship last year.

Second round: Morrison beat Johnston; Glass beat Miller; Fergusson beat Wallace; Darroch beat Whittaker.

Semi-finals: Glass beat Morrison one hole; Darroch beat Fergusson one hole.

Boyd Cup, first round: Kenny McAlpine (St N) beat Neil Dawson (St C); Robin Richmond (St C) beat Billy Wilson (St N); Martin Robbins (St C) beat Sandy McNeill (St C); Andrew Scott (St C) beat Robert Steele (St C).

Semi-finals: McAlpine beat Richmond 2&1; Scott beat Robbins 2&1.
