Sprunt showdown

IT WAS wild and wet for the third and final qualifying round of the George Sprunt Memorial Invitation Sweepstake at Girvan on Sunday.

Eight of the 69 golfers competing for 23 places decided enough was enough and filed non-returns. The others battled on in horrible conditions in a bid to reach the final of a tourney which commemorates a European Tour caddie and popular Girvan character.

Everyone hopes for better weather for this Sunday’s final, with the presentation of prizes taking place at Girvan Bowling Club around 4.30pm.

Former top referee Willie Young, a Glasgow-based lawyer who hails originally from Girvan, will make the presentation of great prizes.
