Jack McDonald clinches junior merit

BARASSIE'S Jack McDonald has clinched the Ayrshire Junior Order of Merit.

The Scottish boys' internationalist and current Scottish boys' strokeplay champion secured the title before the final event, The Ferguson Trophy at Ardeer.

In the final event, a third place finish by David Wilson (Welbeck) took him from fifth to second in the overall table, edging Scott Johnston (St Cuthbert) into third and Craig Telfer of the same club out of the prizes..

The first three of the four finals of the 2009 Ayrshire Junior Golf League competitions were held at West Kilbride Golf Club on Sunday 13th September in glorious weather on a course presented in the best of condition.

lSCOTT BROWN (Turnberry) won the Ayrshire junior champion of champions, beating Adam Foley (Belleisle) 6&4 in the final at West Kilbride on Sunday.

Troon Welbeck won the Wallace Thornton Trophy for the third time, beating Ravenspark 4-0.

The under 16 knockout trophy went to Kilmarnock Barassie who beat Ardeer 3-1.

The winning team was Daniel McBride, Colin Currie, Blair Gavin and Euan Henderson.

The final of the Ayrshire Junior League Championship takes place at West Kilbride on Sunday between holders Largs and West Kilbride in a repeat of last year’s event.

lANNANHILL'S Douglas Anderson and Gary Jordan won the Ayrshire Fourball, beating Scott McCahill and David Wallace (Maybole) at the 18th in the final at Prestwick St Cuthbert.

The defeat was a double blow for the Maybole pair, coming two years after they were defeated on the final green.

lLOUDOUN have home advantage for the first leg of the Ayrshire Summer League final against Irvine (Bogside) on Sunday.

2007 winners Irvine are chasing their second title in three years while Loudoun want their first victory in the competition to round off a memorable centenary year.

The second leg is likely to be scheduled for Sunday, October 4 at Irvine at 10am.

lBARASSIE'S David Miller was third overall in the Scottish Seniors Order of Merit. Winner was George Paterson (Northern).
