Golf: David (14) is record-breaking boys’ champ

DAVID WILSON (Welbeck) won the Ayrshire Boys Matchplay title at Prestwick Golf Club, beating Jared Williams (Kilmacolm/ St Meddans) at the first extra hole.

Wilson became the youngest winner of the trophy, aged 14 years and nine months.

In the semi finals, postponed on Friday night and played on Saturday morning, Wilson had a one hole victory over Cameron McLean (West Kilbride) while Williams beat Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) by 3&2.

First round: McLean beat Sean Thorburn (Belleisle) at the 21st; Wilson beat Andrew Wright (Barassie) one hole; Williams beat Alasdair McDougall (West Kilbride) 5&4; Walker beat Chris Butler (Ravenspark) 2&1.

lTOMMY McINALLY (Loudoun) won the Ayrshire Champion of Champions Trophy for the fourth time at a wet and windy Royal Troon last Friday.

He followed up his wins of 2003, 2004 and 2005 by beating former Ayrshire boys’ champion Neil McCormack (New Cumnock) 5&4.

lSCOTTISH boys strokeplay champion Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) leads the chase for the Ayrshire Junior Order of Merit.

Despite being restricted in the number of events he was available for due to international commitments, McDonald added first places at Annanhill early in the season and Irvine Ravenspark last week to his national success to give him a 200 point lead over his nearest rival, Scott Johnston (St Cuthbert).
