Clubmate Jack McDonald reached the last 32 and then lost to 2006 championship runner-up Paul O'Hara (Colville Park).

lJOHN PANTON, the grand old man of Scottish golf, has died aged 92.

In the 50s and 60s, he was, along with Eric Brown, the foremost figure among our country's professional golfers.

In 1967, he won the British Senior Professional Tournament at Ayr Belleisle, pipping great Belgian golfer Flory Van Donck in a thrilling finish.

He qualified for the final of the International Senior Professional Golf Championship - which he duly won a few weeks later at Wallasey when he beat Sam Snead by 3&2. So impressed were Britain's golf correspondents with John's achievements that they awarded him the Golf Writers' Trophy for 1967.

lTHE line up for the first semi final in the Ayrshire Fourball has been decided. Gary Jordan and Douglas Anderson (Annanhill) beat Stuart and David Brown (Doon Valley) by 2&1 to book an away clash against Kenneth Hankinson and Gibby Lamont (Welbeck).

The other semi will be between the winners of Maybole v Ardeer, who will be at home in the penultimate round against the winners of West Kilbride v Belleisle.

lALL matches in the Ayrshire Junior League Championship are scheduled to be completed this week.
