TWO leading officials of the recently formed South Ayrshire Junior Golf Club quit, throwing its administration into turmoil.
President Tom Watt and secretary John McKenzie left their posts last week.
The club website, which was also administered by the secretary, became unavailable without warning, with anyone accessing the page being redirected to garden suppliers in Renfrewshire.
The move was branded a childish and petulant gesture by the president of the Ayrshire Golf Association.
Alasdair Malcolm hit out: “It left no one with the possibility of contacting anyone apart from roses in Renfrewshire and hardly was with the best interests of young golfers.”
Mr Watt, South Ayrshire Council’s former golf officer, was reluctant to comment when contacted by the Post.
He said: “It’s a wee bit difficult at the moment. Talks are going on and hopefully it’s only a glitch. The important thing is to look after the kids and make sure they are OK.”
More than 20 youngsters are members of the club which was set up last year. With the assistance of other committee members and volunteers, Sunday’s competition at Dalmilling went ahead as planned.
Plans are ongoing to create a new administration for the club and create a new website.
In the meantime, details of the club can be obtained through South Ayrshire junior golf co-ordinator, Catherine Malcolm, at email address of Catherine.Malcolm@south-ayrshire.gov.uk
