Graeme Gimson retains the Links

JOINER Graeme Gimsonretained the Prestwick Links Championship in a repeat of last year’s final.

The St Cuthbert man beat Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) 2&1 at Prestwick to capture the 54th Nickson Trophy on Saturday night.

And en route to victory, he had a 6&5 win in the last 16 over leading qualifier David Glass (St Cuthbert).

In the semi-finals, Gimson beat clubmate Stuart Watt 2&1 while Smyth was two up against Gary Tierney (St Nicholas).

The Boyd Cup went to Willie Murray (St Cuthbert) who beat Gordon Fenton (St Cuthbert) 7&6.

Glass took the prize for the best gross aggregate after leading the 87 strong field with rounds of 67 and 72. That would also have won the best net but that went to next best Robert Young (St Cuthbert) on 140.

Prizes were presented by Richard Cole-Hamilton, representing Prestwick Golf Club.
