HOST club member John Shanks won the Ayrshire Strokeplay Championship by nine shots at Irvine (Bogside) on Sunday.
Shanks, the winner in 2007 at West Kilbride, left the capacity field in his wake after a superb morning round of six under par 65 gave him a five stroke advantage over boys’ champion Scott Brown (Turnberry) at the halfway stage. The best second round score was recorded by Craig McLaughlin (Largs) with a 69.
