Lesley is leading lady

LESLEY Hendry (Largs Routenburn) won her fourth Ayrshire Ladies County Golf Association Championship, beating 18-year-old Hannah Gaunt (Troon Ladies) 4&3 in the final at Glasgow Gailes.

In the semi finals, Lesley beat former county champion Alex Glennie (Kilmarnock Barassie) by one hole while Hannah beat Liz Keohone (Loudoun Gowf) 4 & 3.

Top seed and leading qualifier Rachael McQueen (Troon Ladies) was knocked out in the quarter-finals 4&3 by Keohone.

lENTRY fees for Ayr Golf Week have risen from £40 to £55 – but players can get five rounds for their money. Season ticket holders will pay £35.

lKEN Stevely came in with the best score of 82 in Turnberry Golf Club’s Sunset Trophy competition.

And that shows how difficult conditions were as Ken is a professional golfer.

And while he can enter competitions for the sweep, he cannot win any of the club trophies. Consequently, the qualifiers from the first round are Alan Connor (4)83, David Semple (10)84 and Duncan Kerr (5)89.

The top scores in the Wednesday medal were: D Copeland (2)70, P Zonfrillo (4)70 and P Wiseman (8)73.

lTHE first competition of the newly formed South Ayrshire Junior Golf Club takes place at Maybole Golf Course on Sunday at 3pm.

The club is open to all boys and girls over the age of eight and under 18 on January 1, 2009. Membership costs £10 a year and a full calendar of monthly events is in place.
