Students have Prestwick ball

AFTER 138 years of golfing folklore including 24 Open Championships, 11 British Amateur championships and eight Scottish amateur championships, Prestwick Golf Club played host to Strathclyde University.

Facing a team which included 1979 Scottish Amateur champion Keith McIntosh and former British Universities runner-up Kenny Reid, it was hardly surprising that Strathclyde lost 6-2 in the rain shortened foursomes.

Morning foursomes (over 18 holes): Craig McGlaughlin and Charlie McNeil (Prestwick member) lost 1 down; Jonathan Gilmour and Gerrard Cameron lost 5&3; Paul Robinson and Graeme McDougall half match; Jonathan Fleming and Chris Burns lost 3&2.

Afternoon foursomes (over nine holes): Craig McGlaughlin and Charlie McNeil won 1 up; Jonathan Gilmour and Jonathan Fleming lost 5&3; Gerrard Cameron and Graeme McDougall half match; Chris Burns and Paul Robinson lost 2&1.
