Ayrshire set for cash boost from The Open

AYRSHIRE is set for a £65 million boost when The Open returns to Turnberry for the first time in 15 years next July.

Up to 150,000 spectators are expected, 25 per cent more than when Nick Price won in 1994.

Defending champion Padraig Harrington, who is chasing the first treble win in more than 50 years, will play his first competitive round over the Ailsa Course.

Advance tickets go on sale this week with prices held from last year. A daily ticket for the four championship days (July 16 to 19) will cost £55 with under 16s again admitted free.

Season tickets bought before the end of January will be available at a discounted price of £180.
